2013 New Zealand Diversity Forum

Human Rights Commission Media Advisory: Come to the 2013 New Zealand Diversity Forum
Come to the 2013 New Zealand Diversity Forum
The annual New Zealand Diversity Forum, now in its ninth year, is a unique event that brings together for individuals and organisations interested in how to make the most of our increasing diversity by sharing share ideas and best practice.

The theme for this year is “My dream for Aotearoa New Zealand” which was the theme for Race Relations Day 2013. Over 15 organisations will be presenting sessions on a broad range of topics, ranging from religion and the media, inequalities in health and criminal justice, to rangatiratanga and the whakapapa of human rights.

Race Relations Commissioner Dame Susan Devoy will open the forum with a speech outlining her intentions for the year ahead. She will then chair the afternoon session “A sporting chance” which will explore leisure and sporting opportunities for women and girls from minority communities.

This year’s forum will take place in Wellington, with Te Papa as the main venue, and some sessions being run at Wharewaka and the Museum of Wellington City & Sea.
The annual New Zealand Diversity Awards: Celebrating Best Practice, Innovation and Respecting Diversity will be presented to 10 organisations chosen from the 250+ organisations who participate in the Commission’s NZDAP network. A special award for a non-NZDAP participant is awarded for their contribution promoting positive race relations. The presentation ceremony will commence at 6pm preceded by a networking event at 4.30pm.
More details are available on the Human Rights Commission website. The forum is organised by the Human Rights Commission in association with the NZ Police, the NZ National Commission for UNESCO, and the MSD Settling In Programme.
