Cannabis Party Conference begins in Dunedin
The Annual
General Meeting and conference of the Aotearoa Legalise
Cannabis Party is getting underway in Dunedin today.
Party delegates from Wellington, Christchurch and Nelson are travelling to the event and others will link into the meeting via Skype.
The conference will run from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon and will be hosted at Legalise Cannabis House in South Dunedin.
Party spokesman Julian Crawford said the weekend would kick off the party's Christchurch East By-election and General Election campaigns.
"We are seeing much more acceptance of our message now that other states and countries are legalising, regulating and taxing cannabis."
"Uruguay has legalised and nationalised cannabis while Colorado has legalised and regulated cannabis in the free market."
"Canada has recently introduced a regulated free-market trade in medical marijuana for small to medium sized businesses."
Mr Crawford said he hoped a similar law changes could take place in New Zealand.
"If elected to parliament ALCP would be the ideal coalition partner for any government," he said.
"Cannabis policy impacts society across every cabinet portfolio."
