Christchurch Council supports collection for Philippines

Christchurch City Council supports collection for Philippines

Residents who want to donate to the Red Cross Appeal to help the victims of the typhoon in the Philippines can do so at Christchurch City Council service centres, libraries and recreation centres.

Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel says that the hearts of everyone in Christchurch go out to the people of the Philippines who have lost so much and urgently need aid with food, water and shelter.

“We also want to show our support for the Filipino community in Christchurch, many of whom are still anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones at home,” Lianne Dalziel says.

The Council’s website has information for residents seeking news of friends and family in the Philippines at: http://www.ccc.govt.nz/homeliving/civildefence/internationalrelief.aspx

In addition to the collections, local community efforts include the Christchurch Philippines Assistance Group’s fundraising event at the Christchurch Pallet Pavilion from 3pm to 9pm on Saturday 30 November, and the Support Philippines Day to be held on Saturday 7 December in Latimer Square.
