NZ Aged Care Association Conference 2014

NZ Aged Care Association Conference 2014, Wellington, 15 – 17 October

Facing Tomorrow’s Challenges Today: Choices, Costs, Constraints

This year’s Aged Care Association conference theme ‘Facing Tomorrow’s Challenges Today’ is about creating the best possible quality of life for the elderly from existing knowledge, analysis and creativity. It’s about operators taking the sector’s known building blocks and using them to make decisions that ensure positive business continuity for the coming decades.

‘The present aged care model is more focused on clinical outcomes, than on maximising quality of life. However, this is changing as baby boomers want something different for their parents. Not only is clinical safety important, so is flexibility and maximising individual choices. This philosophy has loosely been termed ‘person-centred care’ and is increasingly being offered across New Zealand and the world’ said Martin Taylor, CEO, NZ Aged Care Association.

The keynote presenter is Dr Davina Porock, Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship at the University at Buffalo, who in 2012 established the university’s Institute for Person Centred Care (IPCC). The IPCC aims to build the evidence base for person-centred care through collaborative interdisciplinary research and dissemination.

The conference also sees the finalists in this year’s Excellence in Care Awards present their entries to the delegation. The awards showcase the best outcomes in Training and Staff Development, Innovative Delivery, Excellence in Food, Community Connections, and Built and Grown Environment.
