City Rail Link Saved - Generation Zero

City Rail Link Saved - Generation Zero

Youth organisation, Generation Zero, would like congratulate Auckland Council today for saving the City Rail Link (CRL) from being delayed.

Spokesperson, Dr Sudhvir Singh; “The CRL has a huge amount of support within the community, with our petition to Auckland Council asking for the CRL not to be delayed receiving over 3000 signatures in less than 24 hours.”

Councillors today were in a budget committee meeting that was built as a crucial vote on whether the CRL would get funding in the Long Term Plan. The motion to fund the CRL was subsequently passed with a majority favouring the current time frame.

Dr Singh; “The CRL will unlock the entire transport system, allowing five minute frequencies on existing rail lines, opening three new stations, and providing the capacity to extend the rail network to the airport and the North Shore.”

The CRL would be the first step of a region-wide Congestion Free Network which would provide Auckland with a world class transport system.

Singh; “The solution to Auckland’s traffic problems is to free up our roading network by offering people choices. The City Rail Link will offer Aucklanders a reliable public transport option which is why it’s so important that it goes ahead as soon as possible.”
