Using land for housing inquiry - submissions deadline 22 Dec

Using land for housing inquiry update: December 2014

The Government has asked the Productivity Commission to inquire into ways to improve planning and development systems in order to deliver an adequate supply of land for housing, especially in our growing cities.

Consultation on the issues paper

The inquiry’s issues paper was released on 5 November 2014, and outlines the background to the inquiry, how we will approach the inquiry, what we see as the key issues and the areas where we are seeking comment and information.

The paper asked a number of questions to help guide our consultation at this early stage of the inquiry and the inquiry team is meeting with a wide range of organisations, including councils, developers, building companies, government agencies, planners, infrastructure providers and building and planning academics to try and to better understand the issues. We are very grateful to everyone who has taken the time to meet with us so far.

We will consider all the feedback we receive from our meetings and the submissions as we develop our draft report, and we look forward to further engagement and discussion following its publication in May 2015.
Deadline fast approaching

Submissions help the Commission to gather ideas, opinions and evidence to ensure that our recommendations are useful and credible.

Submissions on the issues paper are invited by 22 December 2014. We will release a draft report in May 2015 and deliver the final report to Government in September 2015. You can make your submission via email or on our website.
