CYF review case of wrong people examining the wrong thing

CYF review a case of the wrong people examining the wrong things

The Public Service Association (PSA) says the recently announced review of Child, Youth and Family (CYF) is putting the wrong people in charge of looking at the wrong things, and won’t provide the improvements to CYF services that it claims to seek.

Erin Polaczuk, PSA national secretary, said “A genuine modernisation project for CYF would be driven from the ground up – by CYF staff, their union and the users of their services,”

“The lack of social workers on the panel defies belief, when social workers are at the core of the work that CYF does.

“The ‘expert panel’ picked by Minister Tolley lacks expertise in the core business of CYFs – child protection,”

“Utilising CYF staff expertise is the best way to improve services, not an external review by a panel lacking the knowledge of CYF systems and processes.

“If the Government wants to review the work CYF does, that review must also look at the Government’s social policy, which is a key driver for increasing CYF workloads.

“This review looks like manufacturing an excuse for outsourcing rather than seeking a genuine improvement of public services,” said Erin Polaczuk.
