Communities Uniting to Call for Stronger Tree Protection

Communities Uniting to Call for Stronger Tree Protection Legislation

WHEN: May 3, 2015, all day

WHERE: Titirangi Beach, and other locations around NZ (See below for details)

WHO: Local residents and supporters

WHAT: National Day of Action to Reclaim the Resource Management Act

Communities around New Zealand are today gathering at cherished trees calling for a strengthened RMA with better tree protections and notification processes.

The groups are part of a National Day of Action to Save the RMA, communities across the country are collectively determined to reclaim the RMA and save their trees. This is in response to the recent events in Titirangi where a Kauri tree had to be occupied for 81 hours to prevent it from being cut down.

“We need to reclaim the RMA and restore its purpose of environmental protection and community engagement,” said Day of Action organiser Michael Tavares.
