Statement by the Tūhoronuku Independent Mandated Authority

Statement by the Tūhoronuku Independent Mandated Authority

We hope by now you have all read the personal statement of our Chairman in relation to the kereru incident. Following this, the Tūhoronuku IMA trustees wish to make the following points:

- The Ngāpuhi settlement mandate is vested with the Tūhoronuku IMA, not any individual.

- The board has great appreciation for the leadership of our Chairman, Raniera (Sonny) Tau.

He has devoted his life to our people and worked tirelessly to bring Ngāpuhi to this point where we are about to begin Treaty settlement negotiations with the Crown.

We are at a critical stage in our Te Tiriti o Waitangi settlement journey. Our Negotiators and Hapū Kaikōrero are preparing for negotiations, due to begin within months.

Meanwhile we have a second round of Hapū Kaikōrero elections process underway. In line with our kaupapa that “the door is always open to all Ngāpuhi hapū”, the Tūhoronuku IMA is holding a second round of elections for Hapū Kaikōrero representatives.

This follows last year’s election process which saw 47 Hapū Kaikōrero representatives elected.

We wish to encourage all Ngāpuhi to participate in this most historic moment in our modern time.

Please go to our website www.tuhoronuku.com for information on how you can get involved or to learn more about the settlement journey.

We ask all Ngāpuhi to put their weight behind this momentous task and support the Tūhoronuku IMA in achieving what will be a game changer for Ngāpuhi katoa.
