This weekend on The Nation: Children, Clark, Refugees
This weekend on The Nation...
After two scathing reports into the abuse and neglect of children in state care this week, Children’s Commissioner Russell Wills and Judge Carolyn Henwood come together for their first joint interview to discuss what needs to happen next.
Then, former Prime Minister and head of the United Nations Development Agency Helen Clark talks about the waves of refugees crashing on Europe’s shore, getting mul-ti-nationals to pay their taxes, and whether New Zealand’s refugee quota and climate change targets are good enough.
And while John Key argues we should focus on the “outstanding” job we do with new refugees rather than increasing our quota, Nicola Kean asks whether we really are do-ing the best for them once they arrive.
We’ll discuss all this and the week’s big stories with former Greens candidate and Waitemata board member Vernon Tava, Unicef national advocacy manager Deborah Morris-Travers, and New Zealand Herald columnist Fran O’Sullivan.
