New RainbowYOUTH Staff Members Expand the Charity’s National Presence

RainbowYOUTH is continuing its growth with the creation of two new staff roles to
build the organizations capacity as it takes on new projects and ramps up it’s
national presence.

Duncan Matthews, General Manager RainbowYOUTH: "RainbowYOUTH expanding represents the need that is out there for services for Queer and Gender Diverse young people, which is not currently being filled. RY is being recognised as the nationwide leader in this area, with our services and partnerships growing here in Auckland and across the country."

The first of these additions is Aram Wu, who took on the role of National Projects Coordinator in late July and is responsible for the national rollout of RainbowYOUTH, Curative and Core Education’s latest education resource, Inside Out. Wu brings their experience with in the queer and gender diverse community as well as their event management skills to the role, which will see launches across the country. Wu is a long-standing member of the queer and gender diverse community and is one of the founding members of rainbow Asian community group EquAsian, as well as a member of the Rainbow Communities Advisory Panel.

Filling the role of Administration Assistant is Jason Smith, whose placement was supported by Mainstream Employment Program. Mainstream Employment provides a package of subsidies, training, and other support to help people get sustainable employment. Smith’s role will focus on assisting with the administration overhead of RainbowYOUTH, allowing our community facing team to get on with the job.

Jason is a great addition to the team, helping us to build capacity as things such as Health & Safety compliance and meeting obligations under the Vulnerable Children's Act 2014 increase our administration overhead."

The two new additions to the RainbowYOUTH team make up a total of seven staff employed by the charity – the most in since it was founded 26 years ago.
