Workers from 17 Bunnings stores to strike as unrest spreads

After strikes in Auckland and the Manawatu today, workers from an additional 17 Bunnings stores will strike tomorrow in a national day of action, announces FIRST Union Retail and Finance Secretary Maxine Gay.

“While the company is claiming it has no intention of introducing “wholesale changes” to rostering, if this is true then why are they proposing a clause that will give them the power to do just that?”

“Bunnings is proposing a downgrade on the current collective agreement. Changes to start and finish times currently require mutual agreement, but Bunnings wants to reduce this standard to mere consultation, even going so far as saying in bargaining that ‘change by agreement doesn’t work for us’”.

“Workers across the country are going to resist this attempt to make their jobs insecure.”
