From the streets to the stage - AAAP fundraiser gig
Auckland Action Against Poverty move from the streets to the stage, hosting a Fundraiser Gig next month. Street Chant and LarzRanda will be joined on-stage by Tourettes, Rackets, Cool Runnings and SoccerPractise.
“AAAP have a history of attracting talented musicians to take part in our fundraisers – but also our actions with Street Chant performing 'There is no recession in NZ' at last year's 'Block the National Party' protest',” says AAAP coordinator, Sarah Thompson.
“Tourettes has also taken it to the streets with us, including this year at our 'Crash the (National) party' protest where he performed 'John Key's Son's a DJ'”
“Music and carnival are great ways of making protests powerful.
“We are grateful to these fantastic musicians for offering their time and talent both on the streets, and for our upcoming fundraiser at the Kings Arms.
“In addition to pushing for systemic change through action, AAAP work with over 1,000 families and individuals each year ensuring they receive their full welfare entitlements.
“Activist groups like ours have few sources of funding for our work, so this fundraising gig will be an enormous help to us, our activism and advocacy work.”
