Linfox workers strike as managers start work
Linfox workers strike as managers start work on the
distribution centre floor
Auckland distribution centre workers at the Australian logistics giant Linfox walked off the job at 11.30am today in protest at the way the company is treating its New Zealand-based workers, says FIRST Union organiser Bryce Hamilton.
“Despite helping grow the company’s New Zealand operations, workers are only being offered a 2 percent wage rise. That’ll leave their wages below the industry standard,” says Hamilton.
“There’s also concern over the company’s attempt to downgrade other parts of the collective agreement, like changes to allowances for fork lift drivers.”
The strike has meant managers are now helping staff the distribution centre floor which receives 1000 pellets per hour. Untrained managers also appear to operating specialised machinery like forklifts, thus creating a significant health and safety risk.
“Workers have passed a strike ballot and they will not return to work until at least 6am tomorrow. If the company refuses to come up with a fair collective agreement then workers will consider further strikes,” says Hamilton.
