Glenn Barclay named as new head of New Zealand’s largest union

The Public Service Association (PSA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Glenn Barclay as the new national secretary. Glenn will join fellow national secretary Erin Polaczuk as the co-leaders of New Zealand’s largest union.

Prior to taking up the national secretary role, Glenn has worked as a policy advisor at the PSA for 12 years. He has also had experience as an acting national secretary for several months in 2014. The role was vacated by Richard Wagstaff, who had been national secretary for 16 years prior to taking up a new role as president of the Council of Trade Unions.

Glenn Barclay, PSA’s new national secretary, said "I’m excited to be given this opportunity to help create a better working life for PSA members,"

"It is an honour to help our 62,000 strong membership to transform their workplaces and to work for stronger public and community services for all New Zealanders.

"The changing political landscape created by the Government’s agreement to negotiate on equal pay gives us a unique opportunity to make the PSA’s Worth 100% slogan into a reality for women at work.

"I can’t wait to get around the country next year to meet more our members face to face, and hear first-hand about the struggles they are facing.

"The role of national secretary is a crucial one and I look forward to playing a role in the development of union strategy.

"I look forward to working alongside Erin Polaczuk, PSA president Mike Tana and our 62,000 members for a better working life," said Glenn Barclay.
