Meat workers win in Employment Court
The CTU congratulates the Meat Workers Union and their members who have successfully won a major legal development today in their push for a fair collective agreement at Talley's AFFCO.
CTU President Richard Wagstaff said “A full bench of three employment court judges ruled that Talley’s behaviour was unlawful; denying the workers the right to work under their existing employment agreements."
“The Judges also said that Talley’s had breached their obligations to collectively bargain in good faith."
“We are of course thrilled for these people but we are concerned that this is not the first time that Talley’s has treated those that work for them unlawfully. Has Talley’s learnt their lesson this time?”
“Good employers know that treating employees fairly and respectfully is the way to build a happy productive workplace. Talley’s should learn to be a good employer, and for them, following the law is a good first step,” Wagstaff said.
