Disruption expected as New World workers take public stand
Christmas shoppers at Westfield Albany can expect disruption in the run-up to Christmas as New World workers take a public stand for better pay and conditions, says FIRST Union national organiser Bill Bradford.
“New World Albany is among the wealthiest stores in the country, but its workers are some of the worst paid.”
“Why should New World workers struggle to make ends meet when each year they help create super-profits,” asks Bradford.
“New World Albany owner Jamie Eden is creaming it because he refuses to pay his workers a fair wage for the work they do.”
“But this year workers at New World Albany are their supporters in the community are taking a public stand. Actions will be held at Westfield Albany to highlight the issue of unfair pay and conditions.”
“The parents, grandparents and partners who work at New World Albany should earn enough to give their families a decent Christmas,” says Bradford.
“We’re calling on Jamie Eden to stop acting so selfishly and to put working people and their families first.”
