Certified training for home performance advice in 2016

Certified training for home performance advice in 2016

With the growing awareness of the importance of warmer, drier, healthier and more efficient homes, you can now access science-based training in how a house functions and how to improve its performance.

The certified Home Performance Advisor training programme is aimed at those who provide New Zealand households with independent advice, as well as being relevant to upskill anyone working in health and housing programmes.

The growing network of 74 Home Performance Advisors has been joined by local council staff such as building inspectors and those managing or involved in council housing or healthy housing programmes. The course has provided professional development for those advising clients or managing assets in Housing New Zealand and community housing providers.

Industry, too, is starting to realise the importance of providing robust advice as a basis for recommending products.

The Home Performance Advisor programme takes participants through two levels: the Certificate in Home Energy Awareness, and the Home Performance Advisor Certification. The courses train advisors to provide a full assessment, diagnosis and recommendation based on the needs of the client.

“The Home Performance Advisor programme fills a gap,” says manager Jo Wills, “by upskilling advisors with independent and robust information, and taking a whole of house approach to home performance” The programme’s success has been recognised by organisations such as Community Energy Network, Dunedin’s Cosy Homes, Christchurch City Council’s Build Back Smarter service, and district health boards which are sending staff on the courses to develop their competence in advising on home performance.
