Empowerment of Women
Empowering women in the workplace still requires a fundamental change in attitudes and behaviours in many organizations’ leadership says the New Zealand Federation of Business & Professional Women (BPW NZ)
“The empowerment of women in the workplace will come only when managers accept and have a broader understanding of gender and cultural diversity and that it is good for their bottom line,” says President Vicky Mee.
“Research shows that having women on boards equates to greater profitability for companies. Now the paradigm needs to shift further to include cultural diversity.
“BPW NZ are hosting an international conference in Auckland which will be discussing the empowerment of women through business diversity and cultural equality.
“The BPW International Asia Pacific Regional Conference (APRC) is an opportunity to embrace the many cultures of the region through a stimulating programme with men & women sharing how gender & cultural diversity is good for women and for business.
“Two days of thought provoking discussion is planned. From a panel discussion on the shifting of norms in business to create cultural equality to how trade needs to change to support women.
“Women from as far afield as Switzerland, Egypt and Turkey will be combining with those from the Asia Pacific region and some New Zealand men to acknowledge and work towards overcoming unconscious bias in business and politics at a local, national and global level to achieve greater cultural and diversity changes.
“We feel so strongly about empowering women that we are giving the wider public the opportunity to meet and hear from inspiring women of the Asia Pacific Region and wider global community on Sunday 10 April and more information is available on our website.
