Human Rights Commission pays tribute to the late Dr Ranginui Walker
The Human Rights Commission has paid tribute to the late Dr Ranginui Walker.
“Ranginui was fearless, articulate and effective in shifting the consciousness of New Zealanders about iwi Maori, the Treaty of Waitangi and our shared history,” said Indigenous Rights Commissioner Karen Johansen.
“A regular commentator in New Zealand’s mainstream media since the 1980s, Ranginui was able to translate the struggle for tino rangatiratanga into a reo that all New Zealanders could understand.”
Haruru ana te whenua, ngūnguru ana te iwi i te tau kuhurangi, kua hinga he Totara i Te Wao-nui-ā-Tāne.
He maimai aroha, he tangi apakura. Tangi kau ana te mapu mōhou e koro Ranginui.
E te uri o te Whakatōhea, o te waka Mataatua. Hokia koe ki ō maunga kia purea koe e ngā hau o Tawhirimatea.
