Key decisions from today's Council meeting
Key decisions from today's Council meeting
Christchurch City Council met today and made the following key decisions:
Changes to streets in
Sumner
The Council agreed to new wider footpaths, cycle
lanes, a trial 30 kilometre an hour speed limit, improved
landscaping and reduced parking on Marriner Street West and
Wakefield Avenue in Sumner. This move is part of the Sumner
Village Centre Master Plan and aims to create a more
pedestrian-friendly environment.
School speed
zones
Council agreed to new variable 40 kilometre per
hour speed limits around Cashmere High School and West
Spreydon School.
Bach to be removed
A bach, named
Angel's Rest, located on a legal road at Port Levy has been
approved for removal at no cost to Council. Notice will be
given to the occupier, and the owners will be asked to
remove it within two years.
Council grant to support
circus establishment
A grant of $74,945 will be made to
Circotica Ltd from the Council's Creative Industries Support
Fund. The grant is to support establishment of a circus
school and training facility in Christchurch. The Council
made an exemption to its current central city geographic
requirements for the fund so the facility could be set up in
Waltham.
Support for nine early childhood centres
Nine
early childhood centres occupying Council-owned buildings or
land will continue to receive a rent subsidy for another
year. This is while the Council develops a policy about
setting rents and leases for community groups and
not-for-profit organisations occupying Council-owned
buildings or land.
Lyttelton Information Centre
lease
Lyttelton Information and Resource Centre Trust was
given a 10-year lease to continue to occupy 20 Oxford Street
in Lyttelton. The trust will pay the current rental rate for
a year, while the Council develops a policy about setting
rents and leases for community groups and not for profit
organisations occupying Council-owned buildings.
Returned
prisoners from Australia
The Council will urgently
approach to Government about additional funding and support
for the Prisoners Aid and Rehabilitation Society as they
work with prisoners deported from Australia.
Bells on
bicycles
The Council agreed to promote and encourage the
use of bells on bicycles as part of its work to change
travel behaviour.
Mt Pleasant Yacht club lease
Mount
Pleasant Yacht Club's lease was extended by 35
years.
