Slap on the Wrist for Repeated Sexual Violation of boys
Three Meals a Day And a Slap on the Wrist for Repeated
Sexual Violation of Innocent Boys
16 March 2016
Sensible Sentencing Trust’s child abuse spokesman Scott Guthrie has today labelled the sentencing of a 63 year old serial child abuser Raymond Buchanan as totally out of touch and once again is for calling for New Zealand Judges to wake up and start listening to the public!
Raymond Bruce Buchanan was found guilty of 22 charges
including indecent assault on a boy, two of inducing an
indecent act by a boy, four of sodomy, and three of sexual
violation by unlawful sexual connection.

Buchanan repeatedly forced himself on his victims over many years committed some of the most disgusting crimes imaginable against innocent children.
Mr Guthrie said reading the sentencing notes was like reading a real life horror story and can only imagine what these children who are now grown men have had to endure over the last 20 years.
During sentencing High Court Justice Toogood said “ your offending is among the worst of its kind” and further more went on to say “Your offending has had, and continues to have, a profound effect on your victims but as if he was feeling sorry for the offender gave him a sentence discount of 18 months.
Buchanan was sentenced to 12 years and 6 months in prison and will be eligible for parole in 4 years and 2 months’ time. This serial sicko gets 3 meals per day and a slap on the wrist when his victims get a life sentence.
Mr Guthrie
goes on to say “Thankfully we have politicians like New
Zealand First’s Darroch Ball who said “With the Child
Protection (Child Sex Offender Register) Bill being
presented to the House today, it is high time we gave top
priority to the safety of New Zealand children,” and
“Why should offenders retain their anonymity and have
their rights placed ahead of those of children who as a
society we should be protecting and we need to ensure our
children’s safety and New Zealanders should know who in
their neighbourhoods have been convicted of child sex
offences and where they live”.
Sensible Sentencing
Trust strongly supports Darroch Ball and the NZ First
caucus’ work to introduce a publicly-available sex
offender register. It is long overdue. END
