Major ‘Impact’ starts tomorrow – Mangere Work & Income

Over the next three days many hundreds of people are expected to come to AAAP’s latest beneficiary ‘Impact’:

Tuesday 5 – Wednesday 6 – Thursday 7 April

8.30am – 4.00pm

Next door to the Mangere Work & Income office.

Impacts are a time when AAAP puts on a big crew of volunteer advocates over three days to help large numbers of people access support for problems they might be having with Work & Income.

‘While we would be a lot happier if our work wasn’t needed, the stark reality is that every day hundreds of people are denied the full assistance to which they’re entitled from Work & Income,’ says AAAP spokesperson Sue Bradford.

‘At our last impact in Mangere in 2014, we helped over 500 people in just three days.

‘This time around we hope to assist at least 700, in a logistical arrangement with MSD which sees their regional office put on over 30 extra staff.

‘Impacts are one of the rare occasions when the realities of harsh welfare policies and ever deepening poverty bring many people into one physical location at the same time.

‘Key issues facing unemployed people and beneficiaries are brought to the fore.

‘If previous impacts are anything to go by, we expect people from all over the Auckland region to turn up looking for the assistance they often cannot access at their own local Work & Income office.
