Youth Advocate calls for govt to stop covering up crimes
Youth Advocate calls for government to stop covering
up crimes.

Minister of Justice, Amy Adams, claims that the crime
rate has dropped and court hearing statistics had also
reduced. But a Youth Advocate says they are covering up the
real picture and trying to deceive the public.

Jess McVicar, youth advocate for Sensible Sentencing Trust says “I guess they think we are blind or stupid! In my local area there are burglaries every day and cars stolen frequently. The problem is these thieves are not being caught so of course it's not recorded.”
“The
Police know what is happening and are as frustrated as the
public but the Government has rendered the police
powerless.”

“On various social media sites many complaints are continuing every week of homes being ransacked or someone's car being stolen.”
“A close friend of mine had their car stolen from their work place recently; it was tracked down and they went to pick it up from its found location, only to find it had been stolen again!”
“The thieves were found but as they were a 14 year old and 15 year old they got told they had to write a letter of apology and that was it! No punishment and my friend never received the letter of apology!”
So of course the statistics look great, because they are not being recorded and the statistics are being fabricated! "
"The government needs to stop covering up the truth, admit fault, and start really punishing these criminals."
The government has said they are making a big push to get the crime rate reduced by 25% by 2017 and their new statistics say this is working.
Jess says “The government needs to stop manipulating the statistics to make it look good and focus on actually reducing crime and punishing the criminals - including small so called petty crime.”
“Rather than focusing on meeting targets the emphasis should be on encouraging the public to report crime, the Police to charge the offender and put them before the Court.”
Jess stressed that she was not saying send them to jail. “Part of growing up is pushing the rules, young people need rules and boundaries, but mostly they need know they are accountable for their actions and there will be consequences for bad behaviour.”
“The Government should be putting resources into ensuring youth were taught boundaries and consequences rather than manipulating the figures to meet targets.”
