“Parents have a duty of care to nurture and protect their children not to protect their methamphetamine manufacturing businesses.” Guthrie
Sensible Sentencing Trust’s Manawatu Spokesperson Scott Guthrie has today lashed out at Napier Judge Geoff Rea labelling him as weak and totally out of touch with reality.
Guthrie’s comments come after the sentencing of a Napier women on a charge of ill-treating or neglecting a child under the age of 18.
The woman who has name suppression, was slapped over the wrist and sentenced to just 12 months supervision for failing not to tell medical staff her 11-month old daughter had had eaten cannabis oil.

Scott is challenging Judge Rea to publish his reasoning behind his decision to prove to the public he is fit to do the job he is doing.
“Where is the prison sentence? Where is the home detention? Where is the justice for this innocent young helpless victim and where is the deterrent for likeminded offenders?”
“No wonder this country has such a horrific drug problem.”
“By giving a pathetic sentence like this Judge Rea has endorsed this behaviour. Judge Rea has told every meth-making pot-smoking low life that it is okay – he has validated it.”
Sensible Sentencing calls on Judith Collins and Amy Adams to step up and start making our, Judges who are the gate keepers of society, accountable for the unrealistic sentences because right now too many of them are getting it wrong and society is paying the price. ENDS
