Mother’s Day not easy
Mother’s Day not easy for Mothers who have lost a child through Abortion
MEDIA RELEASE MAY 7 2016
On this day that we celebrate motherhood let us remember those mothers who have tragically lost a child through abortion. For many, Mother’s day can be a day of great sadness. Mothers never ever forget their child lost in abortion and often experience a lifetime of regret, grief and sorrow. We should acknowledge their pain and share their grief. We should mourn with those that weep.
There are in our community tens of thousands of women who have been deeply wounded by the loss of their child in abortion. They grieve in silence, because there are few who realise their pain. Many of these women have been coerced into having an abortion, that they did not want. Many too have been abandoned by the father of their child.
Mother’s Day is a beautiful day celebrating the blessings of motherhood. Motherhood commences at conception. From the very moment of the miracle of conception of a new human being in the womb of a woman, that woman is instantly transformed into a mother. There is no greater dignity than this. Men may build skyscrapers that reach into the heavens but only a woman can cooperate with God in creating a new unique and unrepeatable miracle of creation.
On this Mother’s Day it is timely to applaud the truly heroic women in our community who faced with a crisis pregnancy choose life for their child. Many have been abandoned by the father of their child who refuses to accept responsibility for fathering it.. These women are the true heroines of our community who deserve our admiration, love, gratitude and support.
Family Planning, the major abortion referral agency in New Zealand, does women no service by telling them that abortion is an essential health service, that their child is not a human being, it is just a clump of cells and the contents of the uterus.
We are fortunate that there are caring groups in our community that provide post abortion counselling that will help women to find the peace of mind and spirit that they long for.
If we really esteem the dignity of motherhood and value the contribution that mothers make in nurturing our children and building up our community, we will work towards ending the pain of mothers by the abolition of abortion.
