Child Rapist Sentence Offensive - SST

Child Rapist Sentence Offensive - SST

19th May 2016
“Every time we see a weak sentence handed down for such a heinous crime it makes an absolute mockery of the judicial system.” Guthrie.

A Northland man high on methamphetamine who raped a 3-year-old girl has been given some reprieve by a Northland Judge.
His offending only came to light after a doctor confirmed the 3-year old had contracted a sexually transmitted disease.

"As rapes go, this is one of the most serious I have ever seen," Judge Harvey said during sentencing in the Whangarei District Court last week.

A Spokesman for the Sensible Sentencing Trust, Scott Guthrie, says, “The question must be asked as to why any offender is entitled to a 25% sentence discount for an early guilty plea. We are fed up to the back-teeth with the softly softly approach. I can only hope Crown Law appeals and the Court of Appeal increases the sentence.”

“One minute Judge Harvey states this offender is amongst the worst of his kind and next minute he is giving him a discount for being helpful. What about the victim and the victim’s family? What about justice for the community and keep the community safe?”

Mr Guthrie said, “William Bell, Tony Robertson and now this idiot all have committed horrific crimes and have all used the defence of being so drugged up they didn’t know what they were doing.”

“Drug use is not an excuse for any kind of crime and its time the government shut this country’s drug peddling clowns down for ever.”

“People are being murdered raped and pillaged because of the horrific drug use that now seems to be a part of our daily life.”

“Every time we see a weak sentence handed down for such a heinous crime it makes an absolute mockery of the judicial system. This case once again exposes the folly of having a justice system that is excessively offender friendly and ignorant of the ramifications to the victim and wider community.”
