Local Government questionnaire response tops 1500

Local Government questionnaire response tops 1500

A total of 1560 questionnaires were filled in and submitted to the Local Government Commission during its public engagement on options for council organisation in the Wairarapa.

The Chair of the Local Government Commission, Sir Wira Gardiner, said he was pleased with the response rate to the questionnaire, which closed on Friday 8 July. The total may well rise over the next day or two as mail gets delivered to the Commission.

Sir Wira thanked everyone who filled in the questionnaires and the more than 320 people who attended drop-in sessions, public meetings and stakeholder meetings during the month long engagement.

“No-one has a monopoly on wisdom and in a democracy it’s incredibly useful to get as much feedback as possible on options for the way local government is organised,” said Sir Wira.

An update on next steps in the process, including a summary of the feedback received over the last five weeks will be made public in early August.
