Beam Me up Maggie!!!!!
Beam Me up Maggie!!!!!
Minister of Conservation Maggie
Barry announced yesterday that the Government has set a
target to make New Zealand ‘predator free’ by 2050. In
her statement she went on to say that this was going to be
achieved by using technology that had not even been invented
yet.
Where the thought of having a predator free New Zealand is great, achieving it is another matter.
This is just another guise used by the National Government to gain publicity prior to next year’s elections.
Making statements like “using technology that has yet to be invented” is like saying, one day we will be able to beam across continents in the blink of an eye. It is very co-incidental that the new Star Trek movie has just launched in theaters around the country, perhaps as a treat the Prime Minister and all the National Party MPs all went along and it was there they came up with this absurd idea!
It is time this government focused on the real issues like the constant inability of CYF who are regularly failing our most in need - children being abused in this country. How many children have to suffer and in some case die from abuse not acted on by this department??
Paying people to report abuse of children is not the answer, severally punishing those who commit the abuse is the answer. New Zealand leads the world in child abuse, a reputation that we certainly do not want or need.
Forget the rats and possums, spend the money on protecting our children from this abuse. Punish those who commit these horrendous acts on defenseless children to the full extent of the law and make examples of them, don’t just smack them on the wrist and throw them in jail them for a few years.
Child abuse is akin to murder and should have the same life sentence for those who commit it.
Life should mean life not paroled after half the sentence to come out and commit the same crimes again. We are a country that has gone PC mad and we should take a long hard look at ourselves and ask “do we want these people running free in our society?”
If our Politicians ignore the fact that the current system does not work and CYF is a failure, they need to go back to the drawing board and come up with a system that does work and maybe then these young children will be safe from abuse.
It is the NZ Seniors Party’s intention to vigorously address this issue along with many more that the Government seem to be constantly making glib statements regarding the same issues hoping the public will see them as addressing this issue, and many more, when in actual fact nothing substantial is being achieved.
Join the NZSP and together we can really make a difference.
