Child Sex Offender Register Must Be Public

Child Sex Offender Register Must Be Public to Protect the Public

25th August 2016

“The public have the right to know that their children are safe in their own homes and in the community but our politicians think the protection of the offender is more important” Guthrie.

On Tuesday National and Labour along with the Greens stopped the creation of a public child sex offender register in favour of a private register that only Police and other Government departments will have access to.

“It shows just how out of touch they are with public opinion,” says Darroch Ball from New Zealand First who with the Maori Party voted to make the register public.

Both National and Labour MP’s spoke of how important it was to protect the rights of the offenders but failed to even acknowledge the victims of these heinous crimes, or consider the publics right to live in safety and to know who your neighbour is.

“Every parent has the right to protect their children but how can they when these high risk sexual child stalkers are just randomly being dumped back into the community on a weekly basis” Guthrie

Sensible Sentencing Trust is warning the government that unless they seriously rethink this issue they could very well end up with blood on their hands ENDS
