Young Kiwi to represent World Scouting at UN Assembly

The World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) recently put out a call for young people to apply to join a team of External Representatives - to be the voice and face of WOSM at global and international events.

Caitlin Weich, a young student and Rover Scout from Wellington, has been selected to be part of this small team, comprised of young people from around the world. She will represent SCOUTS New Zealand at the United Nations General Assembly being held this month.

“I am absolutely humbled and honoured to be representing New Zealand, and the youth of this amazing international organisation”, says Caitlin.

Caitlin is passionate about advocacy and youth participation in community development. Within SCOUTS, she has been a part of facilitating youth leadership training, the National Youth Council and Wellington Zone team for SCOUTS New Zealand.

Caitlin leaves New Zealand on 16 September and will begin more intensive training on arrival in New York, where she will be based for 10 days, attending several events, many of which are based at the United Nations Headquarters.

“I look forward to making a meaningful contribution to improving the lives of people from all around the world and being a voice on the international stage.” says Caitlin.

“I hope to continue to be an advocate for young people and drive change towards a more inclusive future for youth.”
