Men taking responsibility for ending Family Violence


Although there are many great things about our country, we are one of the worst in the world at family violence, and we all have a responsibility to build a community free from violence. For too long, we have relied on our wahine to reduce violence, it is time for men to step up and do something to make a change.

“Someone you know is affected by family violence (although you may not be aware of it), we all have a responsibility to keep others safe” From the 16th­18th of September men from from around the country and all walks of life will be travelling to Gore to discuss what we are going to do individually and collectively in our communities to create change. The hui which will focus on how men can take leadership in their own communities and nationally to reduce and prevent family violence in our whanau, our communities and our region.

“The men attending are ex­perpetrators of violence, victims of violence (or both) and most importantly men who have not been affected by violence, but want other families to be free from violence”

This follows from a series of successful hui around the country supported by the It’s not OK Campaign.

There will be speakers from around the country who have lead violence prevention activities in their communities and nationally, and time for participants to brainstorm how they can lead activities to stop family violence in their own communities.
