Salvation Army Adds Voice to Calls for Cross-Party Response to Child Poverty
The Salvation Army strongly supports the call from Children’s Commissioner Judge Andrew Becroft for cross-party agreement on efforts to reduce child poverty.
“The Commissioner’s call for political parties to work toward an agreed way of measuring child poverty and then to set clear goals for reducing that poverty is something that clearly needs to be done,” said Lieut-Colonel Ian Hutson, Director of The Salvation Army’s Social Policy and Parliamentary Unit.
“Such a cross-party agreement would indicate a strong commitment by political parties to making a real impact on the continuing unacceptable levels of child poverty in New Zealand.”
