Immigrants a Positive Influence in New Zealand
Immigrants are viewed as having a positive influence in New Zealand according to the latest poll commissioned by the NZ People’s Party.
Aucklanders were surveyed across multiple age groups and ethnicities about their attitudes towards immigrants. The results found that there is a positive attitude towards immigrants, although work needs to be done to improve understanding between the diverse cultures that make up New New Zealand society.
Party president Roshan Nauhria, who is currently standing in the Mr Roskill By-Election, commissioned the poll to so they could gauge what the real attitudes were towards immigrants were, he says.
“Too often politicians use immigrants as scapegoats for issues such as the cost of housing and unemployment rates. We wanted to show that this is not true and that immigrants are viewed favourably by many New Zealanders,” Mr Nuahria says.
The results show that Auckland is respectful of it’its immigrant community and supportive of their ambitions to have better representation in Parliament,”
56% said that they felt immigrants to
New Zealand had made a positive difference to the
country.
43% thought that migrant communities were not
well represented in Parliament.
42% identified the main
reason that migrant communities were not well represented in
Parliament was due to established parties or voters not
recognising migrant needs.
The NZ People’s Party believes that the poll reflects support for increased representation of immigrants in New Zealand’s Parliament and a sign that there formation, and standing candidate Roshan Nauhria in the Mt Roskill by-election, will be met with a significant final vote.
