Nominations open for Deloitte IPANZ Public Sector Excellence Awards 2017

Nominations for New Zealand’s longest-running and most prestigious public sector awards are now open, including a new category to recognise growing diversity within the public sector.

The Institute of Public Administration New Zealand (IPANZ) is calling all public sector organisations to enter their most successful projects in the Deloitte IPANZ Public Sector Excellence Awards 2017.

The awards recognise outstanding achievement and innovation by public sector organisations and teams in a range of categories.

“The public sector, like the rest of the country is changing and so we’ve introduced a new category for 2017, Improving Diversity and Inclusiveness, and look forward to nominations frompublic sector organisations leading the drive for a diverse public sector workforce,” says IPANZ President John Larkindale.

“The most recent awards attracted a record 92 entries and we again hope to see many nominations from agencies of all sizes and types.”

• Excellence in Regulatory Systems

• Improving Diversity and Inclusiveness within the Public Sector (new for 2017)

• Young Professional of the Year

An overall Prime Minister’s Award for Public Sector Excellence is also awarded to one of the category winners (excluding the Young Professional award).

The 2016 winner of this award was the Auckland Council’s Bylaw Review Programme, which reviewed 158 ‘legacy’ bylaws, inherited from the eight former local councils, to achieve a coherent and sustainable set of regulations. The resulting 32 new bylaws aim to help the council respond more effectively to complex problems in Auckland and are exemplars for other local authorities.

Deloitte partner and public sector lead Dave Farrelly says Deloitte is proud to be lead sponsor of the awards.

“We are committed to supporting excellence in public policy, administration and management in the sector. Public sector agencies make a huge impact on the lives of all New Zealanders, and publically recognising successful initiatives is vitally important.”

The awards, which have been running since 2008, are open to central and local government (including Council-controlled organisations), District Health Boards and tertiary institutions.

Nominations close on 1 March 2017. The Awards Ceremony will be held on 5 July 2017at the TSB Arena, Wellington.

More information about the awards, including last year’s finalists and winners, can be found at www.ipanz.org.nz/excellenceawards.
