The Public Service Association Te Pūkenga Here Tikanga Mahi welcomes the apology by the State Services Commissioner Peter Hughes to Derek Leask and Nigel Fyfe.
The apology comes after the Ombudsman’s Investigation into the Possible Unauthorised Disclosure of Information Relating to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
"The PSA welcomes the decision to implement all the recommendations of the Ombudsman regarding Mr Leask, and to apply them also to Mr Fyfe," PSA National Secretaries Glenn Barclay and Erin Polaczuk say.
"We are pleased this episode has been brought to an end so that Mr Leask and Mr Fyfe can carry on with their lives."
Mr Barclay and Ms Polazcuk acknowledge the Commissioner’s further comments about conduct expectations for public servants.
"Public servants should always be free to discuss proposals for restructuring between themselves, with their union and with their employer.
"We also believe they have a right to have a say on the environment they work in, matters that affect their work and issues that are in the public interest.
"Mr Hughes has noted there are legitimate channels that public servants can use to raise concerns.
"Public servants can seek advice and support from the PSA on the best way of raising these issues."
