Death of Killer Best Christmas Present Ever
DEATH OF KILLER BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER
1st
January 2017
Jason Dwayne Lilly was convicted of
murdering Linda Gordon in Kaitangata on 19thDecember 1993
thus destroying any hope of Linda’s family enjoying any
festive spirit from that day forward.
But in a strange
twist of fate Lilly was killed in a motorcycle crash near Gore on
27thDecember.
SST Founder, Garth McVicar said he contacted Ted Gordon [Linda's father] to ensure he had heard about the death of his daughters’ killer.
McVicar said Mr Gordon’s words were ‘Best Christmas present I have had, now we have closure.’
“In those few words Ted encapsulated the lifetime of grief and suffering that losing a loved one in such horrific circumstances inflicts on the victims’ family and friends, yet we still have a system that is focussed on the needs and well-being of the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.”
“Jason Lilly committed an unprovoked, brutal rape and murder of a young mother. Yet despite this brutal crime the system was all about the killer.”
“From the time he murdered Linda right up until the Parole Board released him in January 2012, [despite stringent opposition from Linda Gordon’s family] they had to endure Lilly being released and recalled numerous times.”
Lilly, also known as "Flash", was released from and recalled to prison twice, before the New Zealand Parole Board released him for a third time last November.
McVicar said the New Zealand public, including Politicians and Justice Officials needed to understand the trauma a barbaric, offender focused, and delusionary system put the families of murder victims through.
“I recall speaking to Henk Bouma after one of his wife’s killers died in prison, Henk was elated and said now justice had been served and he had a semblance of closure.”
“I contrast the euphoric comments from Ted and Henk to the recent nonsensical article by journalist Colin James in the [Otago Daily Times, 27/12/16].”
“Colin James is condescending about what he calls, ‘angry statements by victims’ families outside courtrooms or victims themselves in their court statement’ but James doesn’t consider why these victims are angry and frustrated, or indeed if their feelings are justified.”
“James talks about ‘trust’ without
reflecting if indeed victims of such heinous crime have any
reason to ‘trust’ in a system that is single-mindedly
determined to release the killers of their loved ones [and
most other criminals] at the earliest opportunity – and
release time and time again despite numerous breaches of
parole release conditions.
”
“If Colin James
reflects the sentiments of Journalists in this country it is
no wonder New Zealand has such a high crime rate. Trust is a
word he bandies around far too liberally in a World that is
paying a horrific price for such liberalism.”
“I would
rather ‘trust’ in the real life sentiments of Ted
Gordon, ‘the death of Jason Lilly is the best
Christmas present I have had, now we have closure.’
