Newshub-Reid Research Poll - August 2nd - 8th
Latest Newshub-Reid Research Poll Shows Dramatic Comeback by Labour
In the first major poll since the Labour leadership change, the latest Newshub-Reid Research poll* shows that Jacinda Ardern has had a huge impact with Kiwis voters over the past week.
With an incredible turnaround, poll results for preferred Prime Minister show that Ardern is on 26.3%, sitting neck-and-neck with Bill English on 27.7%. This is a 17.6% increase for Arden. In comparison, Andrew Little had 6.7% at the end of July.
In the party vote, Labour has rebounded following its decision to change its leader, recording a 33.1%, a whopping nine percent increase from the previous poll results** on July 31st. In comparison, National is on 44.4%, down 0.8%. Both the Greens (8.3%) and New Zealand First (9.2%) are showing sizeable declines of 4.7% and 3.8% respectively.
Taking all parties into account, the vote for change is strong at 54.5%, versus 45.2% of polling results for parties currently in favour for keeping National in power.
Newshub political editor Patrick Gower said: “The change in results over the past week is incredibly explosive - this is the most unprecedented turnaround in politics that I have seen in my time. This is the first poll in 10 years that shows Labour have a real chance of returning to Government, with Ardern as Prime Minister.”
“The poll shows much more than just the Ardern effect. National’s result is the lowest since March 2007, and New Zealand First has overtaken the Greens for the first time in the poll’s history.”
“The poll shows the total reorganisation of the vote, and what is a very volatile political environment.”
The latest Newshub-Reid Research Poll was conducted between August 2nd - 8th, 2017.
