Fisheries Officers Throw-Back under-Sized Offer

THURSDAY 24 AUGUST

Fisheries Officers Throw-Back under-Sized Offer – 1 September Strike Notices Issued.

Fisheries Officers throughout New Zealand have today issued strike notices after over a year of bargaining with their employer the Ministry for Primary Industries

“The last MPI offer is dismissive in that completely fails to acknowledge a life beyond work.”, says Janice Gemmell, Secretary, NUPE (the union representing the Officers)

“A meeting with MPI representatives last week to avoid strike notices issuing failed with no meaningful acknowledgement by MPI that Fisheries Officers have lives outside work”, says Janice Gemmell. “MPI confirmed its position that every day is the same and that there would be no payment for weekend work going forward”, says Gemmell.

Starting on 1 September, the strike is a refusal to work outside the various MPI premises which will impact most directly on patrols. “Officers will continue to attend to office work however will not be available for patrol”, says Janice Gemmell.
