UnitedFuture wants real action on climate change
UnitedFuture has released it's climate change policy focused on practical actions.

"The time for arguments about the science of climate change has long past - we need to take immediate action if we are to have any hope of reducing the impacts." Said Party Leader Damian Light.

"Our policies include practical ways to help Kiwis reduce their emissions like helping more people get into electric vehicles and produce their own power. We can call do our part to help reduce our impact and our policies provide a practical way to achieve this, removing some of the barriers that many households face."

Future proofing our environment is one of the three key areas that UnitedFuture is campaigning on for this election.

"We have a responsibility to look after our environment, not just for ourselves but for generations to come. It's not about leaving it how we found it, but ensuring it's in a better state so it can be enjoyed for generations to come."
UnitedFuture policy is to;
• Achieve zero carbon by 2050 through Carbon Zero Act which includes long and short term goals, policies and reporting;
• Increase planting of native trees to create carbon sinks;
• Reduce emissions through more electric vehicles, microgeneration for households, better public transport and encouraging innovation (like the digital economy).
• Prepare for impacts of climate change with humanitarian resettlement plans and infrastructure funding for regions.
"While achieving carbon zero by 2050 is an ambitious target, it's one that we have to aim for." Said Mr Light "We cannot afford to delay any longer. Recently we've seen the impact of extreme weather events, proving climate change is upon us."

"Our regions that are at most risk from rising water and extreme weather will need support from central government to prepare and repair. This will mean serious investment in infrastructure that cannot all be funded through rates - the government must step in to assist."

UnitedFuture has long been pushing for a 'no regrets' approach to climate change, with a strong focus on sustainability and reducing pollution.
