Tax Working Group "opportunity to change the conversation"
Tax Working Group "opportunity to change the conversation" - PSA
The government’s Tax Working Group is a genuine
chance to change the conversation around the tax system, the
PSA says.
Finance Minister Grant Robertson and Revenue Minister Stuart Nash have released details of the group, which will be chaired by Sir Michael Cullen.
"The PSA is hopeful this will be an opportunity to drive an inclusive and wide-ranging conversation which New Zealand sorely needs," PSA National Secretary Glenn Barclay says.
"For too long, tax has been seen as a burden - when, in truth, it’s the contribution we make to the public and community services which make our country a great place to live.
"This is a chance to reframe the debate."
Earlier this year the PSA released Progressive Thinking: Ten Perspectives on Tax, which was a best-seller at Unity Books.
"We are pleased one of our contributors, Bill Rosenberg from the Council of Trade Unionswill sit on the Tax Working Group," Mr Barclay says.
"He will represent
the voice of working New Zealanders, who need to be at the
table for this
conversation."
