Greenpeace should not be above the law

The decision to discharge two Greenpeace activists without conviction is disappointing and unfair, says the Petroleum Exploration and Production Association of New Zealand (PEPANZ).

"Hard-working ordinary New Zealanders have to follow the law and it should be the same for Greenpeace," says PEPANZ CEO Cameron Madgwick.

"While we absolutely respect the right to protest, this sort of action was premeditated, stupid, dangerous and illegal.

"This could encourage Greenpeace and others to illegally disrupt any activity they disagree with without fear of any meaningful accountability.

"It could well embolden 1080 protesters to blockade workers doing necessary work this summer."
