Charities Act review: community meeting dates and locations

Charities Act review: community meeting dates and locations released todayy

1 February 2019

The Department of Internal Affairs has today released the dates and locations of the community meetings for the Charities Act review.

Last year, the Government announced a review of the Charities Act 2005 to ensure that it is effective and fit for purpose with enough flexibility to suit the diversity in the charitable sector. As part of the consultation process, the Department of Internal Affairs is holding 21 meetings around the country between 6 March and 18 April 2019.

Department of Internal Affairs General Manager of Policy, Raj Krishnan, says the community meetings are a valuable way to gain vital feedback from both the sector and the public.

“We want to encourage everyone who is interested to get involved in these community meetings, as it’s an opportunity to hear more about the review, and to share perspectives on the Act. We’re looking forward to having an open conversation about what is working, what the key issues are and how they can be improved.”

A discussion document to support public consultation will be released in late February 2019. It will cover a range of issues set out in the review’s terms of reference and identified by key stakeholders. This will include specific questions to help people share their experiences and views. The public will be able to give feedback on the discussion document through written submissions.

Full details on the community meetings, including dates and locations, can be found at https://www.dia.govt.nz/charitiesreview.
