Justice Committee Supports Doctors Killing their Patients

Right to Life is disappointed that the Justice Committee has not recommended that Parliament defeat the End of Life Choice bill [EOLCB] bill at its second reading expected in May.

The Committee presented its report to Parliament today and recommended no substantive changes to the bill.

The Committee has ignored the 38,707 written submissions that had 90.02 % of submissions opposing euthanasia and the EOLCB of David Seymour.

The Committee has failed to uphold the prohibition against the killing of innocent human beings which is the bedrock of the law and of medicine.

The Committee has failed to protect the lives of the most vulnerable members of our community, the aged, the disabled and the seriously ill.

The Committee has failed to uphold the 2,400 year old Hippocratic tradition of the medical profession to do no harm and not to kill patients.

Right to Life requests that Parliament uphold the common good and defeat this contentious and dangerous bill at its second reading.

Right to Life also requests that Parliament support the right of people to die with true dignity by supporting the world class palliative care provided in New Zealand.
