Auditor-General's Annual Plan 2022/23
Our Annual plan 2022/23 was presented to the House of Representatives today. This annual plan is a key accountability document for our Office. It describes the discretionary work we consider will help us to achieve our ultimate outcome – that Parliament and the public can have trust and confidence in New Zealand’s public sector. This discretionary work includes performance audits, special studies, our sector reports, and good practice guidance.
We finalised this annual plan after seeking feedback from Parliament, public organisations, and the public. The topics we intend to look at in the next year are those we think are important to New Zealanders, which was confirmed by the feedback we received on our draft annual plan.
Topics we have included in our work programme include child poverty, family and sexual violence, housing and urban development projects, climate change, and mental health and addiction services for young people. We will also continue to review the effectiveness of the Government’s response to, and New Zealand’s recovery from, the Covid-19 pandemic. Our Office is also interested in understanding how well the public sector is delivering outcomes that matter for Māori, including public organisations’ preparedness to meet Treaty settlement obligations.
As always, we will be agile and responsive to unexpected events and emerging issues during 2022/23.
This annual plan focuses on where we believe we can make the best contribution, as an independent public watchdog, to supporting trust and confidence in the public sector as it goes about its work. Our work will help Parliament and the public hold public organisations to account for their performance.
A media kit is also available for this report.
