UNITED CANDIDATE WELCOMES MARIAN HOBBS’ ENDORSEMENT

The United New Zealand candidate for Wellington Central and former city councillor, Kent Clark, said today he was delighted, to learn of Labour candidate Marian Hobbs’ strong support for Transmission Gully.

In her media release yesterday Marian Hobbs encouraged Wellington Central voters to give their support to her, if they were looking for a strong voice on Wellington issues like Transmission Gully.

“Her strong support for the building of Transmission Gully is heartening, especially as for the past six weeks, United New Zealand has gathered nearly 20,000 signatures calling on funding for Transmission Gully. I am sure Marian has signed the petition along with some of her Labour colleagues.

“The support from Wellington Central voters has been every bit as strong as support from residents in other electorates. I have gauged strong support in the streets and on the buses, which I drive daily for Stagecoach.

“I would like to publicly acknowledge Marian’s support and invite her and any other of her like minded colleagues to join the United team in gathering signatures. This hugely important issue deserves a multi-party approach and I am sure Wellington people would welcome a consensus from the Labour and ACT candidates in Wellington Central,” says Mr Clark.

Meanwhile Kent Clark says the deals going on between candidates are part of the MMP environment. However, voters of Wellington Central should support United New Zealand for both the electorate and list vote.

“I am a strong voice for Wellington with a track record as a local here for over 20 years including three of those as a city councillor, unlike some of the other main candidates.

“I would concentrate on representing Wellingtonians and their concerns as my first priority. National voters who don’t want to vote for ACT or Prebble, and I know from my work in the electorate there are many, but do not want to vote for Labour with the Alliance in tow, can instead support United New Zealand.

“A vote for United New Zealand on the electorate and list votes will not only guarantee strong local representation and advocacy of issues like Transmission Gully, but also provide a check on the excesses of the Alliance,” says Mr Clark.
