GE Three Conviction Deserved

"Libertarians, and all others who believe in the rule of law, look forward to a fair trial this afternoon for those arrested for 'retail vandalism', and conviction if the charges are proven," says Libertarianz Environment Deregulation Spokesman Peter Cresswell today.

These people - the GE Three - entered Pak n' Save supermarket in Mt Albert and were allegedly caught vandalising the supermarket's stock. Such behaviour was sanctioned by Green MPs, and follows the destruction of a GM potato crop at Lincoln for which a conviction has still not been brought.

"Let us be clear," says Cresswell, "there is no argument for special treatment of genetically modified foods. There are already laws against selling poisoned foods - not that anti-GM activists have ever proven their claims in that regard. Their equally implausible claim that the public are 'demanding labelling' is exploded by the many products available that are already voluntarily labelled as NOT containing GM ingedients. The public, it should be noted, are avoiding these products as if THEY were poisoned."

"There is very little sense coming from anti-GM advocates," says Cresswell, "and much dangerous nonsense. The courts can send a message to stop at least the more violent of that nonsense this afternoon."
