Clint Heine, President of Prebble's Rebels, said that Grey Power's call for a change of government is misinformed and misplaced.

"National and Labour have similar superannuation policies, both of which will commit further to an unfair, unstable and unsustainable scheme" Mr Heine said

"National wants to set up a talking-shop, to examine how large the problem is, rather than face the fact that the system needs an overhaul now. Labour's policy consists of sweet but hollow words, which conceal the socialist dream of nanny state providing our incomes."

"A realistic superannuation scheme would allow people to save for their own retirement, rather than forcing people to become dependant on the state. Levels of superannuation should not be reduced for those nearing, or already in, retirement."

"Grey Power holds itself out to be politically unbiased, but their call for a change of government smashes that facade and exposes the group's true agenda."

"As a youth organisation, Prebble's Rebels respects the idea that a lifetime of taxpaying means superannuitants deserve their retirement income. We do however think that the superannuation debate should concentrate on what the situation will be in future years, rather than focussing on the past."

Mr Heine said that Grey Power's members were quite able to make up their own minds on who to vote for, and the organisation did not need to spend members' money on voting instructions.

"Officially sanctioned directions on how to vote are not in the interests of Grey Power members. Previous governments of both both the right and the left have abandoned superannuitants, but this year's election presents only shades of grey rather than a black and white choice for the retired."

Prebble's Rebels did, however, agree with Grey Power that the most important thing was for people of all political persuasions to go out and vote on Saturday.
