Change of venue for Formal Hearings

WELLINGTON – 12 October 2000: The Royal Commission on Genetic Modification’s first week of formal hearings will be held in the Quality Hotel’s Challenge Hall, 355 Willis Street, Wellington.

The Commission has altered its venue for the first week of formal hearings to accommodate the installation of fire safety requirements that have been unexpectedly delayed.

“Interested persons”, their counsel and expert witnesses appearing before the Commission have been directly advised of the change in venue.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause,” says Executive Officer Kay Hewitt.

From week two onwards, the hearings will be held at Level 11, Dalmuir House, 114 The Terrace, Wellington.

A schedule of those accorded “interested persons” status that are appearing before the Commission at these hearings can be found at www.gmcommission.govt.nz or by contacting the Commission office on 04 495 9151.

Transcripts of the proceedings and copies of “interested persons” submissions will also be available on the web. For details on how to obtain hard copies of these documents, please contact the Commission office.

The Royal Commission on Genetic Modification was established by Order in Council on 8 May 2000 and is chaired by Sir Thomas Eichelbaum. The other members of the Commission are Dr Jacqueline Allan, Dr Jean Fleming and the Rt Rev Richard Randerson. The Commission is required to report by 1 June 2001.
