Internet Now Available On TV
New Zealanders now have a simple and affordable new way to surf the Internet - on their home TV.
Leading Internet Service Provider Ihug will tomorrow (Tuesday) unveil a revolutionary new device aimed at cutting the cost of Internet access. The new Ihug Surfboard plugs into television sets and requires no detailed skill to operate.
Previously available only in hotel rooms, the Ihug Surfboard is an ideal option for consumers who do not own, or do not wish to buy a home computer.
Overseas, the device is also proving popular with the vast number of people who have no computer skills or no interest in computers. Priced well below the cost of a typical new computer, the Ihug Surfboard and keypad allows you to surf the net and send email, all from your television set.
Viewers won't miss out on their favourite programmes. The device features a 'picture within a picture' so you can keep track of anything screening on the television channels.
Ihug Surfboard has been designed to ensure you do not need any computer experience and is extremely simple to operate.
It is equipped with an infrared keyboard so you can relax on the couch while browsing the net.
Ihug Director Tim Wood says the product has already been trialled in New Zealand and the results were overwhelmingly positive.
"People with little or no computer experience have been up and running in minutes," he says.
"The Ihug Surfboard will be perfect for newcomers. It will have special appeal for the many seniors who are increasingly interested in email as a way of contacting young relatives."
Mr Wood says children as young as 6 and 7 are now establishing their own email addresses, and grandparents are keen to keep in touch. Consumers can find out more by contacting Ihug on 0800 GET IHUG
